the powerful

Of the many things I’ve learned in writing this book is that there are many effects for a cause. For instance, a plane goes down and 200 people are lost, but one of those is an important man working for a corporation. The next day,  the price of that stock drops while the price of a competitor’s rises. Fiction? Perhaps, but perhaps not. The point is that no single body of people, White House or Congress, controls the fortunes of the powerful. That I’ve learned. I’ve talked a lot about the CIA, and they are indeed more powerful than you realize, but they only exemplify control, not monopolize it.

There’s a man serving life in prison who probably was framed by those in power. I can’ t prove it, but my research has convinced me of that truth. Why is he there? Because he knew too much, talked too much, and couldn’t be controlled. His imprisonment was easy. The powerful always make it easy. It’s always been that way and always will. Nothing can be done.

When I look at the problem with ISIS, I understand that eventually, if left alone and the various nations don’t do anything stupid, like we’ve done in the past, the powerful will take care of the problem. They like order. I appreciate the CIA because I understand, as stated before, that a cause has many effects. Yes, there might be collateral damage, but they solve problems.

Jerry understood this better than most, which is one reason he rejected their overtures. They wanted him as a pawn, not an associate, and pawns are disposable. He was a tool to be used to restore order in their world. Anyway, just because the ID said CIA doesn’t mean they were; perhaps they were South American bankers interested in forming a new government, and needed Jerry to fly weapons for them. Who knows?

Don’t look at the immediate when world problems exist because the powerful are masterful chess players, so you have to look at four or five moves ahead. What will one move lead to? For instance, the murder of Pablo Escobar was cheered by the world as though it would end cocaine trafficking and drug violence. But all it did was shift the cocaine influence to Mexico. Was that the plan all along? Who knows.

I don’t think the powerful have much interest in stopping drugs because it offers so many opportunities for them. And it has little do with money---at least not directly.

So, think about it. Meanwhile, in a couple of weeks I should know which direction the book is taking, as I’ve sent the final package, hopefully, to the agent.

My name is Richard Biggs and I'm a writer. My latest book is about Jerry Allen LeQuire, a convicted drug kingpin, who rejected two offers from the CIA to work for them, and has been in a federal prison for over 30 years.
