Jerry was the only person I'd known who was sent to prison for cattle rustling---and this in Tennessee. It started when someone told him they could get a few cows and take them to the auction---easy money. Well, getting the cows was something straight out of Abbot and Costello--I don't think they got but a couple---and when they finally got to the auction house, the other man was caught. Of course he told on Jerry and to the state pen he went.

Yesterday, I was interviewed by a local magazine reporter about the book and found myself hard pressed to tell the story in brief. It's too complicated for that, so I talked some and referred her to this blog. Over the years, I've attempted to give a flavor of the book here, explaining that it's not as simple as newspapers have painted Jerry's story. As I thought about this, I thought it might be a good idea to one day have a separate book about these experiences, sort of like my diary of writing the book. I have decent notes, email messages from him, etc., that are interesting. I could include more of the characters I met in prison, my run-ins with prison authorities, what's it's like to visit a maximum security prison.,etc. I might even discuss some of the more unusual emails I've received from people who have various claims against Jerry.

IF YOU WONDER HOW SOMEONE GOES FROM A SMALL TOWN TO BEING A PLAYER WITHIN THE MEDELLIN DRUG CARTEL, IF YOU'RE CURIOUS ABOUT THE CIA'S INVOLVEMENT WITH DRUGS, IF YOU WONDER WHAT GOES ON AT A HIGH PROFILE TRIAL, IF YOU WONDER IF THE GOVERNMENT BELIEVES THE END JUSTIFIES ANY MEANS, IF YOU WONDER IF LEQUIRE REALLY HAD $400,000,000 WHEN HE WAS CAPTURED. IF THE ANSWER IS YES, BUY THIS BOOK. Looks like now the book will be available on December 14, so mark the date. Also remember that this site is transitioning to my new book website, richardbiggsbooks.com. The old posts will be there, as well as any new posts. Eventually you'll be able to link to old newspaper stories about Jerry. |
AuthorMy name is Richard Biggs and I'm a writer. My latest book is about Jerry Allen LeQuire, a convicted drug kingpin, who rejected two offers from the CIA to work for them, and has been in a federal prison for over 30 years. Archives
